John M. Truluck, SCCED

John M. Truluck serves as the Director for Dorchester County Economic Development. Before joining Dorchester County, John previously led the industrial recruitment efforts in Clarendon County, South Carolina for over 13 years and is a South Carolina Certified Economic Developer.

John holds a bachelorís degree in business administration and a masterís of public administration from the University of South Carolina.

A native of Lake City, South Carolina, John, his wife and two daughters plan to reside in the Summerville area.

 

Wendy Smith

Deputy Director -  Existing Industry & Workforce Development

Wendy Smith serves as Deputy Director, Existing Industry and Workforce Development for Dorchester County Economic Development. Working closely with the existing industries of Dorchester County, she manages the Business Retention and Expansion (BRE) program that includes the management of the Dorchester County Industrial Council (DCIC), workforce development initiatives and training opportunities, as well as the day-to-day support of the industrial community and Department.

Through collaborative efforts, Wendy also provides low-cost training opportunities, connection to various state and federal support agencies, and supports the development of Dorchester County's emerging workforce. In particular, she has implemented the new Work Ethic Program in Dorchester School District Four and the Dorchester County Career & Technology Center (DCCTC). To help shape the County's future workforce, she also serves in a voluntary capacity with such organizations as, DECA, Palmetto Youth Connections, and FIRST Robotics.

A native of Summerville, Wendy is a graduate of the Economic Development Institute at the University of Oklahoma, the South Carolina Economic Development School at the College of Charleston, and holds a Bachelor of Management Arts from Charleston Southern University. She is also a member ofBusiness Retention & Expansion International (BREI) and the SC Economic Developers' Association (SCEDA).


Lindsey Culley

Community Development & Marketing Manager

Lindsey serves as the Community Development & Marketing Manager for Dorchester County Economic Development. She previously worked as the Community Marketing Advisor for the Nexton (WestRock) development in Summerville. Born and raised in West Columbia, Lindsey graduated with a Bachelorís degree in Tourism Management with an emphasis in Meeting & Event Planning from the University of South Carolina. She will graduate from Clemson University with her Master's in Public Administration in the spring of 2018. 
 
Lindsey manages activities in Dorchester County that will lead to community vitality and more opportunities for citizens within the county including project management, revitalization efforts, investor/stakeholder relations, and retail recruitment and retention. She also manages marketing and communication efforts for the Economic Development office.  Lindsey serves as the Treasurer on the Friends of Dorchester County Parks & Recreation Board of Directors. She currently resides in Ridgeville and is involved in organizations throughout the Lowcountry including: the American Marketing Association- Charleston, Women Leading Government- SC Chapter, the Greater Summerville/Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce, the Summerville Tourism Council, and Nexton and Summers Corner communities.
 
 

Joe Affsprung

Administrative and Research Assistant
 

Joseph serves as Administrative & Research Assistant for Dorchester County Economic Development.  A Pennsylvania native, Joseph came to South Carolina in 2011 to attend the College of Charleston and graduated in May of 2015.  In his final months of college he pursued an interest in regional economics and politics by interning with Dorchester County Economic Development, and was hired full-time following his graduation. 

Joseph supports Dorchester County Economic Development in many capacities.  He manages and updates the countyís database of available buildings and sites, as well as compiles data for marketing functions.  Joseph responds to RFIs when they are submitted, and assists in investigating industrial manufacturers to determine those suitable for investment in Dorchester County.  He performs numerous administrative and clerical functions, and coordinates all private sector fundraising.
