Training Opportunities

New and expanding companies have many training opportunities through the state's workforce programs, in addition to many local resource options that are available. In particular, Dorchester County and the Lowcountry can take advantage of readySC, South Carolina's state-sponsored workforce training program that is hailed as one of the nation's best training programs for economic development. With programs such as these and facilities like the QuickJobs Training Center that cater to the logistics business along the I-26 and I-95 corridors, Dorchester County is ready to meet the training demands of any industry. These multiple training opportunities coupled with Trident Technical College's (TTC) 17,000-student enrollment continue to build the emerging workforce for the Tri-County Region and beyond.

Apprenticeship Carolina Program

A registered apprenticeship is an employer-sponsored flexible training program that cultivates highly-skilled workers who meet the workforce demands of a competitive global economy. Apprenticeship consultants are available, at no charge to employers, to guide companies through the registered apprenticeship development process from initial information to full recognition in the national Registered Apprenticeship System. Eligible businesses can receive a South Carolina tax credit of $1,000 for each registered apprentice employed for at least seven months during each year of an apprentice's program, for up to four years of such a program. Dorchester County QuickJobs Training Center

The Dorchester County QuickJobs Training Center is located at the upper end of Dorchester County in St. George. This unique training center is the result of a partnership between Trident Technical College and Trident One-Stop Career Center and offers more than 30 academic and continuing education courses, as well as specialized, skills-specific job training. Financial aid may include lottery-funded tuition assistance and Workforce Investment Act (WIA) funding.

SC Works On-The-Job Training

On-The-Job (OJT) Training is a method of providing individualized occupational skills training for Dislocated Workers and Workforce Investment Act (WIA) eligible individuals. OJT's objective is to assist businesses to provide training in demand occupations that meet the needs of the employer. The goal of the OJT program is to place participants in occupations that will enhance their prospects for long-term employment. SC Works matches qualified applicants with approved job openings and will also assist in the design of a training plan that will suit your unique business needs. Additionally, the WIA will reimburse employers up to 75% of a trainee's wages.

Workforce Investment Act (WIA)

The Workforce Investment Act (WIA) is a federal program administered in South Carolina by the Employment Services Division of the Department of Employment and Workforce. WIA programs help businesses meet their need for skilled workers and provide individuals with access to training that helps them prepare for work.
