Dorchester County Economic Development Director John Truluck has been named a Top 50 Economic Developer of North America by Consultant Connect.
Truluck took the helm at DCED in 2014 and has over 20 years of experience in economic development. Under Truluck’s direction, Dorchester County’s industry recruitment and expansion efforts have yielded approximately 3,500 jobs and over $800,000,000 in capital investment.
He also spearheaded the creation of Advance Dorchester, a 501(c)3 corporation that allows the County’s Economic Development Office to function as a public-private partnership. Aimed at strengthening the County’s competitive status within the region, Advance Dorchester generates funds from private sector investors. These funds support four key pillars of successful economic development: marketing, product development, prospect development and workforce development.
“I am humbled by this recognition by Consultant Connect,” said Truluck. “I am a big believer that economic development is a team sport, and any recognition for me is more of a recognition for our program in Dorchester County and a much bigger team that makes it all work.”
His education and credentials include a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s of public administration from the University of South Carolina. He is a South Carolina Certified Economic Developer (SCCED) and a graduate of the University of Oklahoma Economic Development Institute and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill Basic Economic Development program. Truluck, a lifelong South Carolinian, is a native of Lake City. He resides in Summerville with his family.
