SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (January 6, 2025)
Dorchester County is proud to announce its recognition as a recipient of the 2024 Community Impact Award from Business Facilities magazine. This award acknowledges the county’s significant strides in economic development and its commitment to enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
Every January, Business Facilities, a prominent publication for corporate site selectors, honors economic development organizations for their efforts in attracting, expanding, or retaining major corporate projects. A key factor in this achievement is Google’s recent investment in the county. On September 26, 2024, Google broke ground on two new data center campuses in Dorchester County, representing a $2 billion investment. These facilities, located in the Pine Hill Business Campus in Ridgeville and Winding Woods Commerce Park in St. George, are set to create 200 new jobs and more than 1,200 long-term construction jobs.
The presence of these data centers is poised to bring substantial benefits to the local community, particularly to the educational sector. Dorchester School Districts 2 and 4 stand to gain from an infusion of new tax revenue as well as enhanced technological infrastructure and potential partnerships with Google, fostering educational opportunities and resources for students across the county.
Dorchester County Council Chair Todd Friddle added, “This project will have a lasting positive impact on our County, providing new jobs, elevating our schools, and enhancing the quality of life for our residents.”
The Community Impact Award from Business Facilities magazine highlights Dorchester County’s dedication to fostering economic growth, supporting education, and improving the overall well-being of its residents. The county remains committed to collaborating with industry leaders like Google to drive innovation and create a prosperous future for all.
