Initiatives
Dorchester County supports a number of regional initiatives with a focus on improving, sustaining and ensuring a high quality of life for our residents.
Tri-County STEMersion
Tri-County STEMersion is a unique hands-on institute for educators and counselors in Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester counties. During the institute, participants are introduced directly to STEM-related work environments through prescheduled site visits across the Lowcountry. Educators will then participate in real-world workplace learning opportunities and lesson-writing activities that will facilitate the development of the pipeline of future employees to meet the needs of local industry.
One Region
One Region is a regional partnership formed to strengthen our economy and produce opportunities for all residents by delivering strategies and actions that make a difference in all people’s lives. This effort is made possible through a U.S. Economic Development Administration grant secured by the Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments, with additional support from partner agencies.
Lowcountry Digital Equity Coalition
The Lowcountry Digital Equity Coalition (LDEC) is a regional strategic alliance representing a cross sector of businesses, governments, and other anchor institutions, dedicated to activities that ensure digital inclusion across the Charleston/North Charleston Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA).
Housing Coalition
An estimated 33 people relocate here per day and the current housing supply cannot keep up with housing needs. The Regional Housing Coalition exists to be a convener of community members, governments, for-profit businesses and non-profit organizations to unifythe region’s efforts to provide attainable housing to all people, regardless of neighborhood or individual characteristics.
