Dorchester County’s Michelle McDonald Earns SCCED Credential

Presented by the South Carolina Economic Developers’ Association

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (October 15, 2025) – Dorchester County Economic Development is proud to announce that Michelle McDonald, Deputy Director, has earned the prestigious designation of South Carolina Certified Economic Developer (SCCED) from the South Carolina Economic Developers’ Association (SCEDA). McDonald was recognized for this achievement during a special ceremony held October 10 at SCEDA’s Mid-Year Meeting in Spartanburg.

The SCCED certification is a highly respected credential within the state’s economic development community, signifying advanced knowledge, professional excellence, and a deep commitment to fostering economic growth in South Carolina. Since the program’s inception in 2001, only 131 individuals have earned the distinction.

“Michelle’s achievement is a testament to her leadership, hard work, and dedication to Dorchester County and the broader region,” said John Truluck, Dorchester County’s Economic Development Director. “Her professionalism and dedication to the success of the region play an essential role in our mission to strengthen local industry, attract new investment, and create opportunities for our residents.”

As part of the rigorous certification process, McDonald completed a series of advanced-level courses through SCEDA’s Advanced Symposium, focusing on topics such as business recruitment, community development, and strategic planning. Participants engage with economic development experts and industry leaders to refine their expertise and elevate best practices across the state.

“I’m incredibly honored to join this group of accomplished professionals,” said Michelle McDonald, Deputy Director of Dorchester County Economic Development. “This certification reflects not only my personal growth but also the collaborative spirit of both the Dorchester County team and the State. I’m grateful to work alongside colleagues and community partners who share the same passion for building a stronger, more resilient local economy.”

McDonald joined Dorchester County Economic Development in 2021 and has been instrumental in advancing the County’s strategic initiatives to support business retention, workforce development, and sustainable growth.
