Dorchester County and The Chamber
prepare local businesses for hurricane season
Summerville, SC –
Wednesday, June 04, 2014 – Dorchester County Economic Development in
cooperation with the Greater Summerville/Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce
hosted a free Hurricane Preparedness Training Exercise for local industry and
small businesses on Wednesday, June 4.
More than 40 participants discussed their current emergency
disaster plan and identified areas of concentration. Dorchester County
Emergency Management director, Mario Formisano and Scott Cave, CBCP for
Atlantic Business Continuity Services, guided the exercise using a mock
hurricane scenario from pre-storm preparation to response and recovery.
“It’s imperative for our local
business and industry to be prepared for disasters,” said Formisano. “During
disaster recovery we’re striving to get back to our ‘new normal’. This can’t be
accomplished if our businesses aren’t ready to open.”
In conclusion, participating businesses received a
“readiness” score for various extreme weather conditions and were provided
suggestions on ways to improve and implement an effective plan.
