Scout Boats Inc. to create 300 jobs with Dorchester
County facility expansion
$2.5 million
investment to add 30,000 sq. ft. to existing footprint
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Scout
Boats Inc., a manufacturer of sport fishing boats, is expanding its
Dorchester County facility in response to increased customer demand – both
domestically and overseas. The company’s $2.5 million investment is expected to
create 300 jobs.
The company is building an
additional 30,000 square feet onto its 182,000-square-foot facility. The expanded
factory in Summerville will build composite parts for newly designed LXF series
(the 275LXF, 300LXF, 320LXF, 350LXF, 380LXF and 420LXF models) and component parts
for the new 275 & 320 Dorado series.
Founded in 1989 by President and CEO Steve Potts, Scout Boats can now
be found in 72 dealers across the nation and world.
Scout Boats has been involved with the South Carolina Department of Commerce’s
export assistance program (State Trade and Export Promotion, or STEP), which
has helped the company make export connections in countries such as Mexico,
Brazil, Finland, Sweden, Italy, Colombia and Australia. Through the STEP
program, Scout Boats has been able to foster these new sales relationships and
boost the company’s bottom line, creating the opportunity for additional
expansion.
The Coordinating Council for
Economic Development approved job development credits for the project.
